Car Insurance Myths – All Insurance Agents are the Same

captive vs independent agents

car insurance mythsAll insurance agents are the same….Not so. Do you know the difference between “Captive Agents” and “Independent Agents.”

A Captive Agent works for one insurance company. The captive agent is obligated to direct business to that insurance company. Example – State Farm, Allstate, Nationwide. These agents are trained to know the products and sell one insurance company’s product line.

Independent Agents on the other hand represent multiple insurance companies and work directly on behalf of their client. As an independent agent I am not obligated to direct business to one company. I have relationships with over 25 companies and the freedom to find the right product for the customer. An independent agent has the ability to compare products, price and service to offer more choices for our customers. I may need to use 2 or 3 companies to insure a business or an individual. As an independent agent I have that ability.

As a consumer the choice is yours. One call to an independent agent can provide you with multiple insurance quotes to compare, saving you time and money.
